Dalio, age 42, the son of billionaire hedge fund investor Ray Dalio died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries on Thursday, Dec. 17, the M.E.’s office said Friday, Jan. 22.

The office said no other information would be released regarding the crash.

The crash took place at the Riverside Commons Shopping Center located at 1233 East Putnam Ave., in Greenwich when Dalio's 2016 Audi, drove over the parking strip, mounted the curb, crashed through the Verizon storefront doors, and traveled into the store, said Greenwich Police Capt. Mark Zuccerella.

The fire marshal’s office said the vehicle's gas tank ruptured and caused the blaze, which in turn set the store on fire, and damaged several other businesses in the shopping center.

Police, firefighters, and bystanders were unable to enter the store to rescue Dalio due to the intensity of the flames.

All of the Verizon employees were able to escape the fire without injury.

Dalio, who grew up in Greenwich, was the co-founder of P-Squared Management Enterprises, a private equity firm that focuses on health-care technology companies.

A graduate of Lafayette College, Dalio also served as a board member of the family’s foundation, Dalio Philanthropies.

The police department said the crash is still under investigation.
